Utiilty construction projects make the transition from being supported by only 2D towards 3D information models. Currently, however, no means exists to support the specification of both semantic as visual information for such networks. The goal of this study therefore was to develop - based on observations within the host company Siers - a first framework that specifies the different levels of development. Its aim was to gain a shared view on how such framework would look like, and thus included a practice-based design approach. and resulted in a Level of Development (LOD)-framework.
The resulting framework can be obtained from the UT-library as part of Gerben’s thesis report. It contains six levels with descriptions of geometric details, corresponding attribute information, and the reliability thereof. The levels follow the conventional naming of existing models and are as follows: LOD 100 (schematic), LOD 200 (conceptual), LOD 250 (exact outer geometry), LOD 300 (exact geometry of utility line), LOD 350 (exacte geometry including joints/connections) en LOD 400 (detailed production model).
