A part of the “Roadmap for Vocational Education” resulted in an E-learning for GPR

The up-and-coming developments - like the Energy Transition, Climate Change Adaptation, and the large scale maintenance and reconstruction needs for cables and pipelines - will effect the underground utility sector. Since vocational education needs to also incorporate these technical and societal developments to be able to teach the necessary competences to their students. In order for the ROC van Twente to be able to include the upcoming changes into their educational programs, this PDEng developed a roadmap in which the main developments and their accompanying competencies are described.

Specifically for the ground-penetrating radar, we developed a training on how to use the GPR to detect underground utilities. With the GPR training and the roadmap the ROC van Twente has the tools in hand to anticipate the education towards the future. It would give them the position to shape a new profession in the Netherlands: a utility surveyor.

The e-learning module (targeted to workers on-site) is available via this link.

This project concluded after a - temporary suspension - in 2021 and resulted in the report that is entitled: Uncovering the future needs for subsurface infrastructure education: designinga roadmap and GPR training. The report is available via the repository of the University of Twente.
